So THERE'S the new post interface everyone was talking about. I likes it.

Attention all grammar police and aim nazis. So you're talking to someone online and you've made the last entry. Perhaps it wasn't the most interesting contribution to the conversation, but that's not the point. After you make this entry, the other party does not respond. At all. The conv has died. Several minutes go by, and still no response. The question is, after how long is it safe to just leave your computer without saying goodbye to the other party? If you haven't talked to someone in (let's say) 15 minutes, are they really deserving to know that you are leaving? I've experienced both sides of this. Sometimes I will glance up and the so-called other party has put up an away message of their own. Totally leaving you in the dark in the first place, and now officially away. The second result is I receive an IM with a goodbye message thirty minutes later from a person who deserted the conv but I suppose decided to tie up lose ends before leaving.

Now it's time for some IM etiquette. I think that if you plan on leaving your computer screen for more than five minutes time, you should tell the other person. Even if all you say is "BRB" then the other person can decide whether they want to wait or not. I also think that if you don't want to continue a conversation any further, you should also be honest about it and end the conv instead of letting it dangle there, leaving the other person in suspense as to whether they should keep typing and continue the conv. There is nothing worse than one-sided online conversations. You may as well be talking to a brick wall.

How long do I think should go by before you just leave? I'm going to say ten minutes. By that time it's clear that the person has little respect for you and you don't need to show any respect to them.

    Meet Carter Oosterhouse

First off, what is up with Trading Spaces Family? We really don't need any spin-offs of our old favorite. Also, who is this Carter guy? He was on the South Carolina: Innisbrook Lane episode.

    Discuss.

For the love of all that is holy and evil, has anyone on this blog finished Phoenix yet? Where is the dedication, people? After 41 hours of intense reading, napping and snacking, I got through 870 awesome pages. And I'm sick of talking to myself about "oh my god, can you believe what happened when Blah did this" and "I never saw Blah blahing coming." I need to talk to someone about this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not your typical outdoorsy kind of person. I really haven't spent much time outdoors period since school got out. The most time I spent outdoors during school was walking to and from class and my car. My parents are out of town so I'm expected to maintain various aspects of the household while they are gone. I went outside for no more than a ten minute span to let out the dog, get the mail and the paper, and to water the plants. While outside I walked through a spider web, was attacked by an army of ants in the mailbox, and got three mosquito bites. Nature is overrated.

As some of you know, before big events, such as the release of Harry Potter 5, I like to try and avoid death. You know, stay away from train tracks and rabid ferrets, that kind of thing. Unfortunately, my efforts have been a little sabotaged as of late. First, Chun had me help her install a ceiling fan. I mean, obviously I'm going to be electrocuted and decapitated. Who doesn't see this coming? Oldest plot twist in the world. Well, it turns out that I managed to kick fate in the ass. This time. But fate is a wily bastard, as I found out yesterday, when my dad announced that he had invited some random French guy whom he met on the internet to come stay at our place for a day. Obviously, my dad doesn't care about political stereotypes or my personal safety. So when this dude shows up today to rape and murder me, thus preventing me from reading HP5, I will know that it is fate screwing me up the ass again.

And just like the ceiling fan deal, when I die, you guys have to come read HP5 to my grave or you are in for the haunting of a lifetime.

I'm having a dork moment (OK, I'm having a dork life, but it's worse now) due to the impending midnight release of Harry Potter 5. Today is a day of preparation. I shall be stocking my mini-fridge with snacks and Coke a-plenty, and spazzing out intermittently.

PS - I get my copy tomorrow and you guys don't neener neener neener.

On the topics of movies, I want to suggest some that you may have overlooked this summer.

    1. Bend it Like Beckham - Everyone: GO SEE THIS!!! I guarantee that you will like it. It's playing at Madstone so go catch it before it's gone. I've seen it twice already, and it's definitely worth the $5.50 student price.
    2. The Italian Job - A cliche heist movie but fun.
    3. Hollywood Homicide - It's got the best police chase scene of the summer so far! A guy runs out of his house, jumps into a paddle boat, and tries to paddle to the other side of the creek from Josh Hartnett.
    4. 2 Fast 2 Furious - I had fun. This was an enjoyable movie. Apparently "sleeves" were not included in Tyrese's contract. Paul Walker rocks casual tees, jeans, and chucks like nobody's business.
    5. Rugrats Go Wild - The movie was so cute that I can almost forgive the fact that it broke out into song about 3 or 4 times. The animation is vibrant and a step up from the normal seen-on-tv quality. Also, be sure to get some popcorn with the Sour Raspberry topping. It's concentrated pixie stick goodness.

For awhile now, I thought the must-see-opening-weekend movies of the summer season had long passed after X2, Matrix 2 and Finding Nemo, but I just read an article that changed my mind. See here. It pretty much addresses every issue I had with the piece of crap trailer for The Hulk, to the benefit of the movie. I usually reserve little faith for critics, but Lisa Schwarzbaum from EW gave it a C-. But wait, this is the same idiot that gave a F to Fight Club and A to The Story of Us in the same issue. If she hates it, it's gotta be good.

In other news, I received an email from overstock.com saying that my copy of Harry V had shipped on Wednesday. Their warehouse is in Utah. I'm in North Carolina. It's being shipped via USPS media mail. I think I'll cry a little.

An open letter to the anime Japanophile people that irritate me so:

    Dear Anime People,
YOU ARE NOT JAPANESE. Watching Dragonball Z and calling yourself Ryu or sticking -chan after your name does not make you anything else but a deluded whitey. Only Japanese people are Japanese, and if you went to Japan, they wouldn't let you in their club no matter how many episodes of Sailor Moon you've seen. They would probably think you are a doofus, like most of the people in America do.

    Yours very truly,
    Sarah

Whoo. Glad I got that off my chest. Flame away, anime people.
    P.S: 20X6!

With 11 days left before HP5, I've been counting down the hours by reading classic children's novels (aka stuff They made you read in middle school). I'd forgotten how much good stuff they are.

A Wrinkle in Time (Madeline L'Engle)
A Wind in the Door (Madeline L'Engle)
A Swiftly Tilting Planet (Madeline L'Engle)
Where the Red Fern Grows (Wilson Rawls)
    Homecoming (Cynthia Voight)

I'm reading To Kill a Mockingbird right now. By far, the best quote evar comes from the said novel:

"Well, Indian-heads-- well, they come from the Indians. They're real strong magic; they make you have good luck. Not like fried chicken when you're not lookin' for it, but things like long life 'n' good health, 'n passin' six-weeks tests."
    -Jem Finch

Although, I think we all know there's no greater magic than Dan'l Boone fried chicken.

And laugh all you want, but my prayers have been answered. Sephora is coming into Crabtree in July. I just about did a happy dance right then and there. Life is good.

Well, holy crap. I totally let the anniversary slip by un-posted. Shame on me.

Anyway, the blog has been around for a whole year now, and it's a testament to my own stubbornness that I haven't taken it down yet, considering nobody besides us ever reads it. Or comments on it. *clears throat*

I've been lax about posting so far this summer, because I never really do anything interesting. Sorry. I'll try and reform my boring ways. Perhaps I'll take up skydiving.
