Poor Jenny, she's been carrying three times her posting weight around here lately.
So here's what's been going on with me these past couple of weeks. Wednesday was the start of band camp (you just shut the fuck up right now, I know what you're thinking) and I was obliged to lead the alto saxophones, all 30 of them. This went on for several days, in which I stayed with everyone's favorite newlyweds because I couldn't move in to my damn dorm because they were renovating the dorm where I had to check out my keys. "But Sarah," you ask, "couldn't they just have you check your keys out at your own dorm?" Well, what the hell are you people thinking? That would actually make SENSE. Anyway I had a great time with Kelly, Seth, and their puppy until Saturday.
Sunday was move-in day. Into my 4th floor room. And my dorm doesn't have an elevator.
Monday morning, I was delighted to discover that I couldn't connect to the internet. "Maybe the network is down," I think, and decide to be patient. 6 hours later, patience wears thin, and I take what was the first of many trips to ATN. The friendly desk clerk informed me that my computer was tagged as being vulnerable to viruses and was thus taken off the network until the security issues could be resolved. "Wouldn't it be simpler if they had warned you of the security issues and allowed you to perform the necessary updates on your own?" you may be asking yourself. There are many compelling and in no way ridiculous reasons why this can't be done. So they requested that I back up my data, and return on Tuesday so that the updates could be performed. So I do that. On Tuesday I dutifully hauled my heavy-ass laptop down to ATN, only to be told that the line was far too long, and I would have to leave my laptop with the staff for 2-3 days. And since I didn't buy my computer from the university, I couldn't be trusted with a loaner. "There's no way this will happen," I told the nice ATN folk. "I just got a new hard drive, onto which I plan to install Windows XP, Service Pack 1, a personal firewall, and McAfee Virus Scan. " "Oh, I see," says the ATN tech. "In that case, we can have a ResNet tech come by your room sometime tomorrow and check on your computer and run any necessary updates." "That will be excellent," I say, trusting that I will be back on the network posthaste. On Wednesday, the friendly ResNet tech comes by, does her thing, and tells me that if I'm not back on the network by 5, then I will certainly be back on in the morning. By Thursday afternoon, I have yet to load a website. A series of several irritated calls to ATN results in the promise that they would surely send my report in to the ResNet folks who would be sure to pass it along to the security people, and I just might get back online Friday morning. Which, wonder of wonders, I did.
Interspersed with all this I attended several classes and band practices.

On Thursday, Andrea and I made it up to Ri-Ra to see The Motion again. They played on an ourdoor stage between Ri-Ra and Blue Martini. All the spectators were sitting in tables at the respective restaurants so Andrea and I just sat on the side of the curb in the parking lot area where the stage was set up. At one point Mark asked for people to come up to the stage cause they were "lonely" but Andrea and I weren't gutsy enough to go for it. We did go and talk to the boys after the show. Then after the show Mark e-mailed us and thanked us for coming. We're official groupies now. I wish I could go and see them in Greenville on the 4th but I have a football game. Holly will be there so that's cool anyway. They are playing September 17 at The Brewery so I asked off from work and am recruiting everyone to go. Rock on.

Support your location Raleigh music scene. Last night I went to see The Motion and Last Years Model at the Berkeley Cafe. I was hyped for the show cause I know people in both bands. Craig, the lead singer for LYM, met us at the door and hurried us in for free so the crazy doorman wouldn't see. We caught the tail end of Anywhere But Here's set. They were a stupid high school band with stupid high school fans everywhere. The Motion came on next. Mike was great drumming as always. I didn't feel Mark had very good stage presence but that's something that will come as they progress as a band. The Chris guy was good singing Wonderwall. After the set, I waited for all the high school girls to have their 5 mins of fame talking to Mike and then once they had had it, Mike came up and said hi to me. I felt cool in the "I'm friends with a rockstar and you're not" sort of way. After what felt like a forever and a day wait, LYM came on. Craig was in a band before as drummer and it was weird seeing him as the lead singer frontman of the group. He was sick and his voice wasn't really up to par. He gave it his all though and put on a good show nonetheless.
A recap: Both bands sounded great live. Their mp3s really don't do them any justice. Check them out:

I start classes tomorrow. Things I am not looking forward to:
Riding the bus
Making the mad dash from Tompkins to Price to Upper Miller Fields in 20 mins
Riding the bus
Buying books
Riding the bus
Having breaks on campus to "chill"
Riding the bus
Driving to the bus stop
Maybe having Asshole in one of my classes
They revamped the bus system so I'm not that worried about catching the bus after band practice and potentially making it to work by 6pm. It's still all crazy though.
Things I am looking forward to:
Marching band
Maybe meeting new people on bus, in class, around campus
Hanging out with people I met last year that are better friends this year
For those of you still in school, what are you looking and not looking forward to?
10.8.04 Song lyrics to describe how I'm feeling right now.
Everclear "Summerland" Let's just drive your car We could drive all day Let's just get the hell away from here For I am sick again Just plain sick to death Of the sound of my own voice We could leave behind another wasted year Get some cheap red wine and just go flying We could do the things, All the things you wanted to No one cares about us anyway I think I lost my smile I think you lost yours too We have lost the power to make each other laugh Let's just leave this place And go to Summerland Just a name on the map Sounds like heaven to me We could find a town Be just how we want to be No one here really cares about us anyway We could find a place Make it what we want it to be No one really gives a fuck about us anyway We could live just like we want to live No one here really cares about us anyway We could be everything we want to be We could get lost in the fall Glimmer sparkle and fade The sparkle and fade Fall glimmer sparkle and fade Forget about our jobs at the record store Forget about all the losers that we know Forget about all the memories that keep you down Forget about them We could lose them in the sparkle and fade We could leave them behind in the sparkle and fade Yeah sparkle and fade Fall glimmer sparkle and fade
I had an informal interview for hourly part-time manager at the movie theater. Needless to say I blew the interview and I hope they don't offer me the position. If they do offer me the position, I may have a hard time turning it down. If they don't offer me the position then I will continue on with my pre-destined plan that seems to be my future.

Waited for Mike and watched Princess Diaries. Had to leave with 20 mins to go and then went to Jason's and it consisted of:
Ping Pong
Coors Light
Second-Hand Smoke
Madden 2004
All complete with getting home at the ass's ass crack of dawn. A successful party turned guy's night out (cause I was the only girl there) event.
Is this really what goes on when guys hang out? I should have just stuck with the Princess Diaries and called it a night.
On a side note, when did "F'n A" become such a slang phrase? Like when people pronounce it as written, or say the real first word and just say A after. It's as annoying as "wicked awesome" to me.
