As of yesterday, I’m now one step closer to becoming the Crazy Cat Lady up on the hill, where if your friend dares you to run up and ring my doorbell I’ll turn the hose on you. I adopted Marvin from the Wake County SPCA and, after a harrowing 40 minute car ride during which someone had a little accident (I won’t say who), we finally got home.

Marvin seems to be adjusting fairly well and has completely claimed my bed for himself. He’s a little cautious and seems to need to sneak up on everything, including his food, my socks on the floor, and the couch. He almost braved his way onto the balcony, but that just didn’t happen. Marvin also startles easily...I’m not sure if he doesn’t see very well or if maybe he’s just kind of dumb. He tends to walk straight into things, like, bonk! bounce back half a foot. And when he can’t see me, he thinks I’m gone forever and never coming back. He’ll wander into the closet or under the bed, lose sight of me, and that’s it, he’s all alone in the world. Cue the panicked meowing. Woke me up five times last night, bless his stupid heart.

Marvin was a stray, so he’s kind of small for his age (3). He’s already litter-trained, so that’s nice. He also doesn’t seem too picky about how old his food is, unlike a lot of dumbass cats. He likes having the side of his face scratched and has a suicidal need to weave around my ankles when I’m walking. He’s pretty lazy, but that works well with my lifestyle. All around, a good cat.

One cat down, 16 to go.

Taken April 5, 2006 by Nicole. Make note that no chocolate from a Cadbury Creme Egg gets left behind. Also you can see Wentworth on my wall, and my great snack basket under my bed.

We got a watermelon from The Green Project and Liz carved a face into it. Then we ate it. Fun AmeriCorps times.

So if there was ever an upside to being single for a dangerously extended period of time:

A man pleaded guilty Wednesday to murdering his girlfriend's parents and was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole.

The parents were shot in the head following an argument over his relationship with their daughter.

So you all know that I live in a warehouse with my nine other teammates. My TL and the Food Point-of-Contacts go buy the food and then two people a night cook. Today I was starving at 4pm when we got done working but I knew Liz and CJ were cooking so I had a snack. Three hours later food was finally on the table and I thought my stomach was going to digest itself.

No one told me it was dinner time and I only found out cause my room is right next to the common area and I could hear them all at the table. People also think it is cute to put all the food on the table and pass it around like we are a big happy family.

It annoys the shit out of me having to ask for all the food and having to pass it to other people as well. So I sit down at the end of the table cause it is the only seat and just stare at my plate. The meal was Swedish meatballs with spaghetti sauce, egg noodles, and broccoli. Nicole asked if I wanted some broccoli so I took some of that. Then I got up and walked to the other side of the table and stabbed a meatball with my fork over people's shoulders. The egg noodles were nestled in the middle of the table and they looked gooey so I didn't even go for those.

I started to eat the meatball and instinctively picked out the onion. I expected it to be in there. Next was the broccoli. I looked down and what did I see? A piece of onion in there.

I ask, "Is this onion in the broccoli?"

Liz replies, "Yeah, we had some extra so we threw it in there."

(Back story...Liz and Jason made hamburgers on Thursday night. Sounds normal. They made them with onions in them! They were like square centimeter slices. I got one, picked out the onions, then got a piece of cheese and microwaved it on top. Still, a hassle.)

I don't like onion. I don't like how onion makes other food taste.

The dinner got a 2 on a scale of 1-10 from me. I opened the fridge and pulled out leftover mac 'n cheese with tuna and ate that for the rest of my dinner. It's a wonder I don't starve here.

SuperJen4 (11:08:51 PM): i was never a hockey fan but i think i would watch it with friends if i could
SuperJen4 (11:09:00 PM): just cause it is the finals and all
S4tUrn11 (11:09:20 PM): its a fun sport to watch if you have a vested interest
S4tUrn11 (11:09:36 PM): playoff hockey is probably the best playoff sport to watch, in my opinion
S4tUrn11 (11:09:59 PM): basketball has so much scoring that you never really feel like whats going on is that important until the end of a game
S4tUrn11 (11:10:23 PM): soccer has so little scoring that you can fall asleep for an hour and not miss anything
S4tUrn11 (11:10:38 PM): but hockey, especially with their new rules that promote scoring, is a good mix

Everyone in Toronto was super nice. The hotel even loaned me their tallest ladder so that I could leave Canada a thank-you note.
