Parking in downtown Raleigh is awful.

Maybe they should stop building condos and start building more parking garages. Or maybe I should buy a condo and move in and have a parking space there.

    All right, job update.

I felt like my interview went really well. It was for an office aide position with the Department of Revenue. In the individual department, there is one supervisor, three full-time employees, and five temporary employees. The position I applied for is one of the temp jobs. It gets evaluated every 60-90 days and then renewed. If it does last for an entire year, I will only work 11 out of 12 months. Their slowest time period is November/December so I would be FORCED to take one of those months entirely off.

Um, yeah? That is amazing. Sure, no income coming in but it would be great to have time off for JL Fall vacations. I'll just have to save up enough money or try to arrange another form of temporary employment during that time period.

At the end of the interview, they told me that they had a couple of more people to interview and they would know by the end of the afternoon who they were selecting. When I originally applied for the job, it said there were four positions available. That was a long time ago so I'm not sure how many positions they were hiring for now. They had me fill out a background check release form, made photocopies of my driver's license and SS card, and confirmed my phone number from my application. They said background clearance normally takes about a week and a half and the job would probably start in April.

At first I thought they would call on Monday afternoon to know if I was selected but I haven't gotten a phone call yet. It's driving me nuts but also means they could be waiting for my clearance to come through before even telling me they want me for the position. That's the general consensus I get from people I've spoken to.

So yeah. I might get a job with the Department of Revenue working M-F 8-5. Whoa, it's gonna be weird living like the rest of the world once again. I haven't had a day job in almost five months.

    Career Ladies of the JL

First, let's say congratulations to AMANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure Uncle Sam is glad to have you back. Today is a perfect rainy day to celebrate the joy of having a new job.

Yesterday morning I got a phone call at 8:30am about an application I submitted the middle of December with the NC Department of Revenue. I worked the dayshift at the theatre but didn't check the message before I went to work. I planned on getting up today at 9 to call them back. My alarm went off and I felt like shit cause I was so nervous and ancy last night and had trouble falling asleep. I reset my alarm for 10 and was trying to get back to sleep when I heard the phone ring. Sure enough, same prefix for the DOR so I answered it. I got a SECOND phone call from a different lady and was asked to come in for an interview on Monday at 9.

Wow. Just when I was going to start applying for summer jobs with the Raleigh Parks and Rec. The job I applied for was just a temporary job as an office aide. It's the lowest of the low jobs I've seen posted for on the State website. However, I see it being as in invaluable stepping stone into the State government and will give me some credentional when it's over to apply with other agencies or pursue another one in the Dept of Revenue.

If I get the job, I will be working a mere 2 blocks from Amanda downtown! I'm not sure how grown up jobs work but we could totally meet for lunch and stuff.

    HOLLA.

PHASE TEN FOR LOSERS LIKE US:

    Masters Edition

The Masters Edition of the game can be played by two to four players and includes additional rules:

    * The ability to choose which Phase to attempt (not necessarily in numerical order) based on the cards dealt to the player. Players must verbally declare which Phase they are attempting during the hand after cards are dealt.

    * The ability to set aside (or save) one card per hand.

    * The ability to draw one card from their save pile per hand.

The Masters Edition comes with 10 Phase cards for each player to keep track of the Phases which they have completed during gameplay. The Masters Edition also includes only two Skip cards instead of the four that the original edition contains. This makes the playable number of cards 106, plus the forty phase cards, for a total of 146 cards in the box.

I don't know. Only two skips cards instead of four? I think we like our healthy share of skips.
